How does copyright apply when a teacher, for example, privately sells the work of a student? Radio-Canada asked Nathaly J. La Presse Business interview – Intellectual property in the age of artificial intelligence

Nathaly J. Vermette, lawyer and trademark agent, spoke to La Presse business reporter William Thériault about the challenges must-know tricks of protecting intellectual property in the age of artificial intelligence.

” We can classify works of authorship into two categories. Those that are purely human or with an AI contribution, and those that are completely generated by AI. I believe that these, perhaps incorrectly, will not have copyright. When it comes to pure copyright, I always like to go back to basics. The aim was to protect and encourage creativity in the useful sciences by giving creators the exclusive right to share their works (…) Copyright lasts for the lifetime of the author and 70 years after the author’s death. So we can deduce that it must concern a human being.”

Interview in Droit-inc.: DS Lawyers launches a program to bring young lawyers closer together globally

Last month, DS Lawyers held the first edition of DS Academy in Paris. The aim of this initiative is to bring young international lawyers for the DS group closer together, and to demonstrate openness and transparency at all levels.

In an interview with Droit-inc. Montreal lawyer Angèle di Giovanni and Madrid partner and Group General Secretary Angela Lopez Molina explained the ins and outs of the program.
