How does copyright apply when a teacher, for example, privately sells the work of a student? Radio-Canada asked Nathaly J. Vermette, a lawyer and trademark agent at DS Lawyers, to explain the ins and outs of intellectual property law, particularly in the case of works created by third parties and sold without their consent. ” We can classify works of authorship into two categories. Those that are purely human or with an AI contribution, and those that are completely generated by AI. I believe that these, perhaps incorrectly, will not have copyright. When it comes to pure copyright, I always like to go back to basics. The aim was to protect and encourage creativity in the useful sciences by giving creators the exclusive right to share their works (…) Copyright lasts for the lifetime of the author and 70 years after the author’s death. So we can deduce that it must concern a human being.”
