Customs Law and International Trade

DS Lawyers Canada Customs and International Trade practice is active worldwide in customs law. It offers its clients a wide range of services, advice, and litigation in customs law, indirect taxation, and international trade regulations in cooperation with the relevant national and international judicial authorities. 

In close coordination with the other departments and offices of DS Lawyers in Europe, Latin America, Asia (China, Vietnam) and Africa, the customs team assists its clients in the implementation of their international projects by proposing the following four transversal offers: 

  • Access to the European market, regulatory compliance, free movement of goods, capital and services; 
  • Follow-up of trade defence measures: anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations; 
  • Export controls and international economic sanctions; 
  • Transfer pricing policies, customs valuation, tariff classification, and rules of origin. 

The DS Lawyers Canada team has extensive knowledge of customs procedures and the following customs authorities  

  • Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA); 
  • Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the United States Department of Commerce (USDOC);  
  • Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DGCE);  
  • European Commission;  
  • World Customs Organization (WCO);  
  • World Trade Organization (WTO). 

DS Lawyers also works closely with specialized experts, such as the American law firm Holland and Hart, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions, and Export Administration Regulation and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (EAR/ITAR).  

The Customs and International Trade Department of DS Lawyers is an active member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and a specialist advisor to the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade.
